Don...The chase has begun

Hopes are always high on every SRK flick. But this time the stakes were compounded enormously as SRK was donning the DON's mantle which was elevated to iconic status by the Big B about 30 years ago. The man behind the script and the camera happened to be the son of the writer who scripted the Amitabh classic.

Though Farhan Akhtar recieved mixed results at the box office of his two movies, on a personal note i enjoyed both of them. DCH for standing out of contemporary cinema and bringing out the story teller in Farhan and Lakshya for the cinematic genius he had inherited.

So checking out the new DON on the day of its release had enough reasons backing it. The plot seemed to go the old DON way and just as we thought the movie is gonna be just a tribute the classic, the first twist was delivered right before the intermission. In desperate need to differentiate the new DON from the old one, the movie post intermission involves lots of twists at a frentic pace..some enjoyable and some at times seemed dragging but the climax more than made up for all the drag part.

Coming to the performances, it was great watching the 'king' NOT doing what he does best for a change. SRK comes out with a great performance to bridge the iconic role of Big B and his own inimatable style and the product is enjoyable.

Boman Irani adds another feather in his already clustered cap of Dr J.Asthana, Lucky Singh, K.Khurana with his portrayal of D.C.P De Silva...you got to watch the movie to know if he was doing just that ;)

Kareena did't have much to do in the movie, though she did try to look elegant in her dances but the void between her and the legendary Helen seemed too big to bridge. The veteran Om Puri was wasted in the movie while Priyanka Chopra was a revealation in the movie. She matched the brilliant Zeenat in her own way and amongst others in the movie, hers was a standout performance.

The music was good..the background score being the best. Shaan with 'Main Hoon Don' and Shankar's 'Moriya Re' were my favorites. Udhit Narayan's awful rendition of 'Khaike Paan Banaras Wala' of the Kishore Kumar classic was the only negative point in an otherwise decent score by the Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy team

So the overall verdict...an enjoyable movie with good music and sufficient twists in the plot to keep you hooked till the end. The old Don loyalists might not like it but Farhan has done a decent job out of his dad's script but he could have done better going by his earlier movies. I would rate the movie at 3/5 and a MUST WATCH for all SRK and Priyanka Chopra fans...

Don Ko Pakadna Mushkil Hi Nahi...Namumkin Hai....:)
